irst off, thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC.
I am absolutely OBSESSED with this book. As someone whose greatest historical obsession, outside of the Tudors, has always been Troy, Sparta, Greek mythology, and the ancient world in general, Shadows of Sparta felt like it was written directly for readers like me. This story completely consumed me from start to finish.
The writing is impeccable. Truly. Rich, immersive, cinematic, emotional… every single page felt spellbinding and utterly delectable. The atmosphere wraps around you immediately, pulling you into a brutal, dangerous world full of politics, power, betrayal, longing, and emotionally charged tension that never lets up. Sparta itself feels alive in the best possible way, harsh and beautiful all at once.
The mythology elements were woven in so naturally and flawlessly, and the emotional intensity between the characters had me fully invested. I loved the constant undercurrent of danger and the way the story balances darkness, romance, action, and layered storytelling without losing the actual plot beneath the tension. That balance is so rare lately in romantasy.
This is hands down one of my absolute top 5 reads of the year so far. I already know this story is going to live rent free in my brain for a long time because honestly… I have NO idea how I’m supposed to wait for the next book after that ending.
If you love Greek mythology inspired romantasy, immersive world building, emotionally charged storytelling, dangerous power dynamics, and writing that completely transports you, do not miss this one.
