Daggermouth completely pulled me in from the very beginning. Set in a brutal, oppressive world where power and control rule everything, this story delivered the perfect mix of political intrigue, danger, rebellion, and romance. Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down.
Shadera and Greyson were easily my favorite part of the book. An assassin forced into marriage with the man she was supposed to kill is exactly the kind of chaos I love, and their relationship kept me hooked from start to finish. The tension between them felt earned, and I appreciated that their journey wasn't rushed. Every step forward came with challenges, distrust, and difficult choices, which made the emotional moments hit even harder.
What really surprised me was how invested I became in the world itself. Beneath the romance is a story about survival, sacrifice, corruption, and the fight for freedom. The stakes felt high throughout the entire book, and there were plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing. More than once, I found myself saying, "Just one more chapter," only to realize I'd read several more.
The reason this landed at 4.5 stars instead of a full 5 for me is that there were a few plot points and character decisions that didn't completely add up in my head. Nothing major enough to take away from my enjoyment, but enough that I paused a couple of times and questioned how certain things came together. Even so, those moments were few and far between.
Overall, Daggermouth was a dark, emotional, and incredibly entertaining read that delivered on both the action and the romance. The ending had me flying through the pages and left me desperately needing answers. I am absolutely invested in this story now and cannot wait to see what happens in book two.
If you enjoy dystopian fantasy, true enemies to lovers, political intrigue, morally gray characters, and high stakes from beginning to end, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.
