Trying to keep this one spoiler free:

So, this one caught my eye thanks to a new site I found through Goodreads called Booktrovert (side note: loving what they’re doing over there), and I went in completely blind. Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead is a fast paced, emotionally layered take on what happens after the world ends, and you live to tell about it.

CeCe is one of the “cured,” brought back from the edge of death in a society still limping through the aftermath of a deadly outbreak. But being alive doesn’t mean everything is okay. Far from it. What follows is her messy, painful, sometimes tender journey to reclaim her life and identity in a world that she barely recognizes.

My Take:

This was a solid, quick read with a premise that felt both fresh and familiar. I appreciated that it wasn’t just about surviving a zombie apocalypse, it was about what comes after, when you’re trying to figure out who you are while everyone else is trying to figure out and/or forget the past.

The emotional depth was definitely there. The story doesn’t shy away from trauma, guilt, and the awkwardness of starting over when everything you once loved is gone or changed. There were a few plot twists that snuck up on me, and I love that. They made certain moments land a little harder, and gave the story more weight than I expected going in.

Now, here’s where I had a little hesitation. Some of the more intense, emotional beats felt a bit too clean. Some pretty intense scenes sometimes passed by too quickly or were handled in a way that didn’t quite match the gravity of what had happened. It didn’t ruin the book for me by any means, but it did make a few parts feel a little too neat or underdeveloped.

All said, Love and Other Cures for the Recently Undead was a good read. Not a new favorite, but absolutely worth picking up. It’s quick, moody, and heartfelt, with some truly compelling ideas about identity and healing. Ramsay has a strong voice and a knack for mixing real emotion with speculative grit, and I’d definitely read more from her in the future.

Recommended for:

* Fans of Warm Bodies with more edge and less fluff

* Readers who like their post apocalyptic stories with more heart than gore

* Anyone looking for a thoughtful, fast paced YA that balances grief, healing, and second chances

Final word:

Fast paced, surprising, and gritty in the best ways, but a few big moments deserved more emotional impact. Still, Ramsay’s voice is intriguing, and I’d happily read more from her.

My Rating: 3.5 ⭐
Spice Rating: 🌶️ (Very Mild)
